Ornaments, Noses and Tails

DeSoto was a division of Chrysler Corporation, it was named after Spanish explorer Hernando de Soto, hence the peculiar image on the ornament below. Sadly it only produced cars from the early 1920's to 1961.

Bayerische Motoren Werk or BMW for short was founded in 1916, it used to produce aircraft engines during WWI and WWII. See the propeller on the logo?
